With the support of local non-profit groups and community partners, the Lac La Biche Ice Festival has grown into a one-of-a-kind winter celebration on the frozen surface of Lac La Biche Lake.
Originally known as the Winter Festival of Speed, the event began in 1984 with thrilling car races on the ice. Over the years, new activities and attractions have joined the lineup — from snow drags and high-horsepower sleds to a family-friendly kids’ carnival and even aircraft landings on our ice runway.
Local trappers added a heritage touch with demonstrations and axe throwing, while snowmobile events, ice sculpting, and snow carving displays have kept the excitement fresh year after year.
Most recently, we introduced a Friday Kick-Off featuring plenty of activities and a country music concert hosted by Lac La Biche County. The weekend continued with the return of the beloved LLB Kinsmen Pond Hockey Tournament and the crowd-favorite MEGA Trucks event.
Today, the Lac La Biche Ice Festival honors its high-octane roots while embracing new thrills, tastes, and traditions — a celebration of winter, community, and pure northern fun!
